Skim
Privacy Policy
Last updated October 4, 2026
Skim is a mobile game from MayBolt Media, a one-person studio. I'm the person behind it. This policy covers the Skim apps for iOS and Android. It says, as plainly as I can, what the game collects, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version
There's no account, no sign-up, and no login, and there are no in-app purchases. The game never asks for your name, email, phone number, or location, and I never see them. Your progress stays on your device. The game shows ads through Google AdMob. Unity Ads is mediated through AdMob and bids on those ads, and the winning bid serves the ad. Firebase Analytics counts how the game is used. Each of these is described below, along with how the consent tools work. On iOS, Apple's tracking setting controls whether the advertising identifier is available.
What MayBolt Media collects directly
Nothing. I run no servers for this game and receive no personal information from it. Your progress stays on your device, in the operating system's normal app storage. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Advertising
Skim shows ads through Google AdMob. Unity Ads (run by Unity Technologies) is mediated through AdMob and bids on those ads. Each time the game asks for an ad, AdMob takes a bid from Unity Ads, and whichever bid wins serves the ad. Data from this is shared with those ad partners for advertising and measurement.
Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) is the consent tool for these ads. To bid on, show, and measure ads, Google and Unity may collect and process:
- Device and advertising IDs: your device's advertising identifier (the IDFA on iOS, the Advertising ID on Android), when the platform and your choices allow it, and identifiers their own code creates for this install of the game;
- Your IP address, and an approximate location from IP;
- Device and software details such as model, operating system version, language, screen size, and network type;
- Ad interaction data: whether an ad was shown, whether you tapped it, and whether you watched it;
- Diagnostics and crash data about how their ad code is running. Google's ad code reports its own crashes and performance to Google, and Unity's ad code reports its own diagnostics to Unity.
Google and Unity each decide independently how to use that information, under their own privacy policies:
- Google AdMob: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and policies.google.com/privacy
- Unity Ads: unity.com/legal/game-player-and-app-user-privacy-policy
Your choices about ads
Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) is the consent tool for these ads. It is how Google asks for GDPR consent in the EU, the UK, and the EEA, and how it offers US state privacy opt-outs where Google determines those laws apply. Google's consent tool records your choice, and AdMob passes it to its mediation partners, including Unity Ads, through the industry consent framework where they support it.
On iOS
On iOS, the advertising identifier is the IDFA. Apple's App Tracking Transparency is the system control for whether an app may use it. If tracking is not allowed, iOS withholds the IDFA.
In the EU, the UK, and the EEA
In the EU, the UK, and the EEA, UMP is Google's consent message for personalized advertising under the GDPR. Where that message is shown, you can consent or refuse. Google's tool records the choice, as described above.
In US states with privacy laws
Some US states, California among them, let you opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. Where Google's tool determines one of those laws applies, UMP is where that opt-out is offered. Google's tool records the choice, as described above.
On Android
The advertising identifier on Android is the Advertising ID. You can reset or limit it in your phone's Ads settings. Deleting it means apps get no tracking identifier at all.
Analytics
Skim includes Firebase Analytics. I use it so I can see how the game is used, which is the practical way for a small studio to know whether an update helped or hurt.
When it runs, Firebase Analytics records usage and interaction data. That includes the events Google collects automatically, such as the app being opened and a session starting, along with an app instance identifier, device and advertising IDs where you've allowed them, the device model, the operating system version, the app version, the language, and an approximate location from your IP address. There is no account, so none of it is tied to your name or email, and I don't receive a copy of it on a server of my own.
The game also logs events of its own as usage and interaction data: ad offers seen and watched, shop visits, coins earned, laps reached, and levels quit. None of them carry an ID of mine. Google's description of what Firebase Analytics collects, and how long it keeps it, is on the same partner-sites page linked above.
On iOS, Apple withholds the IDFA when tracking is not allowed.
I don't run a crash-reporting service of my own. Diagnostics and crash data from the ad code go to Google and Unity, as described above.
Children
Skim is a general-audience game. It isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this game, email me and I'll act on it promptly.
How long data is kept
I hold no personal information, so there's nothing for me to keep. Data that Google and Unity handle for advertising and measurement is kept according to their own policies, linked above. Everything the game stores on the device is removed when you uninstall the app.
Deleting your data
To ask for deletion, email [email protected]. Because there are no accounts, the in-game data lives on the device, and uninstalling the app removes it. I don't keep a copy to delete. Ad partners' data is handled under their own policies, linked above.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information about you, and to object to its processing. Because MayBolt Media holds none, those requests about advertising and analytics data are best sent to Google or Unity, which control that data. If you're not sure where to start, email me and I'll point you to the right place.
If you live in California or another US state with a comparable law, you also have the right not to have your personal information sold or shared for cross-context behavioral advertising. I don't sell personal information, and I don't receive any to sell. The ad networks above may use data from the game for personalized advertising, which some of these laws count as selling or sharing. The US-states section above explains how to opt out.
